Purpose:

To prepare the chancel and altar for worship and Holy Communion.

The set up of our chancel and altar is extremely important to our worship services.  The colors add meaning to the season.  And Holy Communion Sundays run smoothly because of the Altar Committee.  This is a behind the scenes job that adds so much to our worship.

Responsibilities:

*Taking care of and laundering the linens.

*Putting out the paraments for worship by the color of the season we are in.

*Preparing the altar for Holy Communion and non-Communion Sundays; includes checking schedule for color, dusting, checking candles, polishing and placing offering plates, water for Pastor, flowers out and Communion ware.

*Preparing for Funerals, Weddings and Baptisms as scheduled.

Length of service:

Usually two Sundays in a row, two to three times a year.  There will be some training time also when you are just beginning.

Exodus 40:10  Then anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils; consecrate the altar, and it will be most holy.                                       Psalm 27:4  One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek:  that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.                                        2 Corinthians 9:12  This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.
