Children’s Ministry

"Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it. And he took them up in his arms, laid his hands on them, and blessed them." (Mark 10: 13-16; parr. Matt 19:13-15; Luke 18:15-17)

Nursery

The nursery of Messiah is here to provide loving and safe care for infants and small children while their parents are involved in worship, Bible study, or fellowship.  It’s open to all children 3 years and younger.  We have two locations.  There is an infant nursery focused on infants from 10 weeks up through steady walkers.  This room is to the left of the worship center.  The toddler nursery is for steady walkers through age 3 and is located in room E125N of the education building.

We offer a simple set of Bible stories, songs, and prayers that are part of your child's visit to the Toddler Nursery during the Sunday School hour.  These will allow our almost-two year olds a preview into the world of Sunday School.

Our caregivers all have long experience in childcare, first aid and CPR training, and most importantly of all, a love for our little ones.  If you need help finding either of these locations, please ask a greeter, usher, or any of our members, and they’ll be happy to assist you.

Children’s Sunday School

We welcome all children ages 2 through 4th grade to join our Children's Sunday School classes.  Fifth grade through high school is part of our youth program.  We’re dedicated to bringing God’s Word to our children in a way they can both understand it and have fun learning how to live it.

SUNDAY MORNING - Where to go?

The 1st through 4th grade begin together with time in prayer circles to share concerns and celebrations.  The large group participates in a brief devotion that leads into the day's theme, and then they break out to their own rooms for class time where they dig in, relate the stories to their lives, and apply their newfound knowledge in fun activities.

Children in the 2 year, 3 year, 4 year, and Kindergarten classes start in their classrooms.  They end the hour praising our Lord with music time in the Multi-Purpose room and celebrating birthdays blessed with God's love.

Faith Like A Mustard Seed

It may never be too early to begin nurturing a servant heart.  Our children's service ministry provides many activities and opportunities for even the youngest children to share the light of Jesus love through simple acts of kindness.  The name of the group comes from various references in the Bible to this "smallest of all seeds" which grows into the "largest of all garden plants".

December Events included designing nativity sets out of building blocks to deliver to our neighbors while sharing the true story of Christmas, making cards and decorations for a nursing home, and later Christmas caroling to residents in a local community home.  January is a month to rest and re-group because in February the events will start up again!

Vacation Bible School

Messiah delievers an exciting, activity-filled, week of summer adventure during Vacation Bible School (VBS).  This gives children an opportunity to keep focused on God’s Word during the summer and also gives them a great opportunity to invite friends to join the fun.  The children move through different stations including story time, crafts, snack, music, games, and opening and closing activities.

VBS is a crazy week, but it’s also a week where the Bible really comes alive for kids as they experience God’s Word in so many new and exciting ways.  We have programming for all children from age 3 through 4th grade and we love having visitors.

Dates for 2012 ---  July 9-13
Registration will begin in May

baptismFootprints of Faith - Remembering Baptism as Children Join Sunday School

On Sunday, January 8th, families of children in the 3 year old Sunday School class participated in a special program.  Families shared memories and mementos of their child's Baptism.  During the Sunday School hour, children revisited their baptism through a storybook and talked about how they are now "big" kids coming to Sunday School by themselves.  Pastor Borkenhagen led parents through a Bible Study discussion on "Living Waters" helping parents renewing the promises made on behalf of their children at their baptism.  During the 11:00 am worship service, each child received a shell candle to light on their baptism birthday.
